Care Standards Act 2000
The Care Standards Act 2000 was the Act under which the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) was brought into being in order to register and inspect care services in England. The NCSC was replaced by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and the Commission for Healthcare Audit and Inspection (CHAI) in April 2004. Both of these regulatory bodies have now been replaced by the C.Q.C. (Care Quality Commission).
The Care Standards Act 2000 still applies in Wales and gives powers to register and inspect establishments and agencies in Wales that provide social care.
Elsewhere it has been succeeded by the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
The requirements of The Care Standards Act 2000 are incorporated into the QCS care management system, and any change to the legislation and standards introduced in the future will be accommodated by changes to the system.
